On Sunday the 19th of May 2024, Town Centre residents met in the Square for a litter pick. It was organised by Alex Wagner.

Equipment, high viz vests, disposable gloves, bins and grabbers was provided by the Council. The group was subdivided to cover different parts of the town. There was plenty of mess to clear up on the Sunday morning though thankfully nothing too disgusting. There were a lot of fag ends. We were out for about 90 minutes. Alex took the rubbish to the tip in his car.

These are the observations of some of those that took part:

  1. We should have taken brooms and dustpans, which will be part of future litterpicks.

  2. We all recieved encouragement from passers-by who were glad to see action being taken in the Town Centre.

  3. There was variation in the state of the pavement in front of shops, which might be something STCRA can work on with Shrewsbury BID.

  4. The floral tubs and litter bins are in a poor state. Our concerns should be passed on to the Council.

  5. We found it a generally enjoyable experience!
