Following removal of the planter at the top of Pride Hill last summer, the benches were removed in February 2025 at the instigation of the police, to reduce the attractiveness of this area as a focus for antisocial behaviour. The area is now a great deal tidier, and behaviours have improved a lot, but it is recognised that many people – the less able, parents with children, enjoyed sitting here, meeting up, chatting, or just having a rest on the way to and from the shops.
